CARNIVAL! Notting Hill Carnival will be here soon.

Apart from going along to watch with mates over the years, Carnival, is not something I know much about. We don’t celebrate it in Ghana, I don’t really understand it. SO I am doing it! This year, I have been invited to learn about Carnival and experience it properly for myself. All captured in a documentary being directed by Tony Oldham and produced by his production company, Blackstone Valentine.

So far so fun. I’ve been to my first band launch (Chocolate Nation) in central London, where about five different bands, including the Ebony Steel Band, came together to show their costumes. They have spent months and months designing and making outfits for men and women, different styles  –  corsets, headdresses and bikinis, colours, music. A big party. With rum.

All this is about identity, celebrating heritage and culture. Having been on the sidelines, I’m ready to get involved. I’ve been vlogging about what I’ve been getting up to and learning about. SO bring on August bank holiday weekend and Notting Hill Carnival 2015 and no rain….
